Detroit Red Wings Prospects

This article will be focusing on the upcoming prospects in the Detroit Red Wings system. You may or may not know that Detroit has always used their picks and used them wisely at that. In the past few seasons they have been finishing very high so that leaves them with a lower pick throughout the rounds. But does that stop them from drafting some of the best players available? No it doesn’t, it seems Ken Holland (GM of the Red Wings) is a magician behind closed doors. There are many upcoming players in the system that are just waiting for their chance to wear the Red Wings jersey, I say that because many players in the AHL club (Grand Rapid Griffins) are having great years.

These players include Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Jurco and Ryan Sproul.

Nyquist had a 60 point year just last season and it seems he has started right where he left off. With only playing 15 games so far this season with the Griffins he has 7 goals and 14 assists which combines for a total of 21 points and also leads the Griffins in points.

Next up is Tomas Jurco who was a very dominate QJMHL player for the Saint John Sea Dogs. Jurco has always been criticized for not playing defensive hockey, but so far this season he is playing some of the best hockey he has ever played on both sides of the puck. So far with the Griffins Jurco has accumulated 19 points over the span of 16 games played and is also a +7.

Lastly the player I will be discussing about in this article is Ryan Sproul. Sproul is in his rookie year for the Griffins, but if an average fan was to look at the style and confidence he plays with they would think he has played in the league for 3 years at least. Sproul brings tons of composure to the team along with an offensive upside. Just like Jurco, Ryan Sproul was a very dominate player in the OHL for the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds. In his time with the Greyhounds he played 172 games and along with that came 153 points. He has converted very well to the AHL hockey so far he has played a total of 16 games and has 12 points in the time he has spent with the Griffins.

The 3 players I have talked about today are all off to great years with the Griffins as you can tell. These are just few of the many players, there are many more in the system that I will be talking about in later days.
